Binding wires for the Zutter Bind-it-All

Binding wires are 11" long, with a 2:1 pitch.  A 2:1 pitch means that the wires are made to be used with a hole-punch pattern of 2 holes per inch.  Pitch is important, because if the pitch of the wire does not match the pitch of the holes, then the wire will not fit well in the book.  Diameters below refer to the size of the wire when closed around the book.

For 12" projects, you will center the holes. leaving 1/2" of un-punched space at the top and bottom of the project. 

The wire we carry is the standard 11" length and is packaged in the standard 50-piece and 100-piece boxes. Because we sell the standard length wire in its original, standard packaging, it costs much less than it would cost in special-order lengths or in custom packaging.  Our smallest diameter wires start at 14 cents per wire, and our largest wires are less than 70 cents each.

We buy our binding wires from major manufacturers that supply binding wires to other commercial enterprises. These are the same wires used to make the wire-bound books that are available on the commercial market -- the same binding wires used to manufacture the wire-bound books sold in stationery stores and scrapbook stores.

A note about using 1/4" wires:  We added 1/4" wires because our customers were eager to make tiny books with the Bind-it-All.  After using the 1/4" wires ourselves, we discovered that the margin between the left or top edge of the paper and the beginning of the holes punched by the Bind-it-All is just slightly too deep for pages bound with 1/4" wire to turn as smoothly as they do with other wire diameters.  Our solution is to trim off just a small amount of this margin using a paper trimmer.  Since books made for 1/4" bindings are by necessity very small anyway, it's not hard to trim each page to give the pages more room to move in these tiny wires.  Since the wire is inserted at the same point, even if your margins are not trimmed uniformly, the outer edges will still be perfectly aligned.
